What Advantages are Given to the Engineer by FIDIC?
The most unsophisticated question which is asked in connection with FIDIC model contract agreements is why does an engineer have to work under FIDIC forms based contract.
The Engineer who is engaged in FIDIC model forms based work:
(a) is acting as an authorised person who has wide powers and whose instructions are complied with by an employer and a contractor;
(b) has an opportunity to prove his professional qualities in the course of a project;
(c) has a steady income;
(d) is exercising controlling and supervising functions being a major authorised body;
(e) is maintaining financial control;
(f) is acting as mediator between an employer and a contractor i.e. his actions are those of a trial court at dispute resolution.
Hence, the Engineer is virtually a Project Manager, the major authorised body combining the functions of an employer's representative, a 'financial supervisor' and a 'trial court'.
